Elizabeth is a 16-year-old junior high school student who uses her school’s new WASH facility, funded by The One Foundation, to practice proper handwashing with soap.
Before the project, over 450 pupils and teachers relied on unsafe, dilapidated pit latrines with no handwashing facilities, contributing to poor hygiene and frequent absenteeism among girls during menstruation.
The new facility, delivered by WSUP, includes a 14-seater toilet block with a reliable water supply, separate toilets for girls, boys, and teachers, handwashing stations, and changing and shower rooms for girls.
These improvements have created a safe, inclusiveand dignified environment for students and staff.
Elizabeth is now a member of the school health committee, promoting hygiene and supporting facility maintenance.
She says, “I feel so happy and confident now—this new WASH facility means I can be in school every day of the month without worry.” Elizabeth – Ashanti, Ghana
